100 Busy Black Women

The Movement

Dear Busy Black woman,

Allow me to say “THANK YOU” for all that you do! For all the late nights at the office your employer took for granted, deep convos at 2 a.m. to talk someone off the edge, meals whipped together with your last bit of energy, completed projects that cost you yet another weekend off, poems you wrote that fed our souls when yours was thirsty, affirmations and encouraging text messages when you needed a hug yourself, smiles and contagious laughter that lit up the room when you were in desperate need of a nap, the business you threw your last coins into that now serve others, the relationships you held together, the apologies you humbled yourself into, the “thank yous”, the accountability … the list goes on! I invite you to join me in appreciating all that you’ve done and knowing that the world is better for it!
Sis, YOU ARE SEEN!

Mission

Elevate the Black collective from the inside out … we’ve paid our dues!

Goal

Heal, protect and prioritize the collective’s greatest asset, the Busy Black Woman.

2024 Objectives

  1. Get 100 Busy Black women to attend their first therapy session ever.

  2. Get 100 Busy Black women to practice centering themselves for 100 days.

Why The Busy Black Woman?

She is the center of it all and can’t help but to do all the things. The entire Black collective already benefits from the contributions she makes, even while she’s running on empty (most of the time) … one can only wonder how much she can do, when she is healed, prioritized & protected.

“Everybody Black” (shout out to Issa Rae) wins when the Busy Black woman learns to center herself. Trust me! The busy won’t stop, but it will no longer cost us our greatest asset.

Facebook Community

Hop on over to Facebook and join 100 Busy Black Women a.k.a. The Center. Hang out, learn at your leisure and connect to other dope Busy Bodies who are here for the movement. Practice the 7 tenets of the self-centering philosophy in your own way and share your experiences.

Be on the lookout for Dr. Smith showing up (maybe with some buddies!) to help you learn how to move past whatever is stopping you from putting yourself first!

Challenge Squad

Be on the lookout for various self-centering challenges that will be offered throughout the year. Challenges will range from Mini to Emergent. Join them when they feel right for you and keep track of all the days you actively center yourself — Be sure to shoot a quick email to admin@personalspacetherapy.net to share once you’ve banked 100 days (see 2024 goals)!

Experience Expert

Help to fuel the movement! Contact Dr. Smith to learn about ways you can contribute to the community by sharing in a:

Professional Spotlight: licensed clinicians sharing their expertise and therapeutic style

Happy Client Spotlight: a Busy Black woman who has tried therapy and would like to share parts of their experiences to help encourage or prepare other Busy Bodies for their therapeutic journeys.

Challenge Levels

  • Mini

Mini self-centering challenges feature actions that take a moment or up to 7 days to complete. Sign up for a mini challenge to get a quick boost towards the center, with relatively minimal effort.

  • Free-Flow

A Free-Flow self-centering challenge includes committing to a particular goal, openly for accountability, and making progress in your own way. You will find encouragement and gentle nudging in the community as you move at your own pace.

  • Emergent

An Emergent self-centering challenge includes committing, with a group of other Busy Bodies and Dr. Smith, to set a goal and meet consistently for check-ins, workshops, daily tasks, etc. to ensure that the goal is met.

Challenges:

Free-Flow: 1 Session Down

Commit to making 2024 the year you get “try therapy” off of your to-do list and end this year with at least, “1-Session Down”! Sign up here or email your request to join with subject line “Sign Me up for 1-Session Down”.

“You can rest when you’re dead ... No time to rest, there is work to be done … If I can' handle it, I should do it … Because I CAN make it happen, I need to … If you need to try therapy, your faith must be small … I can’t stop to care for me when so many people depend on me … I do it better, so it’s my responsibility … I’ll get to me if there is time after I care for everyone else … I’m mean if I say ‘no’ when I am capable of doing … going out of my way is how I love …” — Black Superwoman Philosophy

“Nah.” — Self-Centering Philosophy

Not at our expense, anymore!
